Dirk has been making ceramics since 2008. He is a self taught ceramicist based in Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin. Before that he lived in Japan for 12 years where he was a Buddhist monk for 10 years in a Japanese Zen-monastery. Dirk has always been inspired by Japan and started collecting Japanese ceramics when he was a student and his passion for ceramics grew during his time spent there.
His work is about simple functional shapes in subtle minimal colour shades.
Every piece is hand-thrown on a potters wheel in stoneware. Dirk develops all his own glazes which is an on going project. Glazed pieces are then placed in the kiln which is heated to 1240°C. They are hand made in small production batches.
